What is LASIK?
LASIK is laser surgery that reshapes the cornea to correct a visual defect. The procedure is quick and done on an outpatient basis, under anesthetic drops.

Am I a candidate?
Candidacy is decided after a complete preoperative work-up : measurement of the visual defect, thickness and shape of the cornea (topography), general eye examination. LASIK is not suitable for everyone — it is notably contraindicated in case of keratoconus. Other solutions then exist.
How does the procedure work?
The surgeon creates a thin flap in the cornea, applies the laser to reshape it, then repositions the flap. The whole thing takes only a few minutes per eye and visual recovery is generally quick.
The recovery
Mild discomfort and a gritty sensation may appear in the first few hours. Eye drops are prescribed and it is advised to avoid rubbing the eyes. A postoperative follow-up checks that healing is going well.
The alternatives to LASIK
