LASIK in Fez: Correcting Myopia, Astigmatism and Hyperopia

LASIK is one of the best-known techniques for correcting vision and reducing dependence on glasses. Here, explained simply, is what to know before considering refractive surgery in Fez, Morocco: what LASIK corrects, who can benefit, how it works, the recovery and the alternatives.

What is LASIK?

LASIK is laser surgery that reshapes the cornea to correct a visual defect. The procedure is quick and done on an outpatient basis, under anesthetic drops.

What does LASIK correct?

  • Myopia
  • Astigmatism
  • Hyperopia
  • Presbyopia, in some cases

Am I a candidate?

Candidacy is decided after a complete preoperative work-up : measurement of the visual defect, thickness and shape of the cornea (topography), general eye examination. LASIK is not suitable for everyone — it is notably contraindicated in case of keratoconus. Other solutions then exist.

How does the procedure work?

The surgeon creates a thin flap in the cornea, applies the laser to reshape it, then repositions the flap. The whole thing takes only a few minutes per eye and visual recovery is generally quick.

The recovery

Mild discomfort and a gritty sensation may appear in the first few hours. Eye drops are prescribed and it is advised to avoid rubbing the eyes. A postoperative follow-up checks that healing is going well.

The alternatives to LASIK

Depending on your eye, other options may be preferable: PRK, SMILE, ICL implants, ororthokeratology (without surgery). See our page Refractive surgery.

Frequently asked questions

Is it painful? No, the eye is numbed with drops; temporary discomfort is possible afterwards.

Is the correction permanent? The result is stable in most cases; an assessment evaluates each situation.
