Contact Lenses & Orthokeratology

Custom-fitted lenses, specialty lenses for keratoconus and orthokeratology (seeing without glasses during the day) — an expertise of Dr Oulehri in Fez, Morocco.

Contact lens fitting is a particular expertise of Dr Oulehri Hassan’s practice in Fez, Morocco. Beyond standard lenses, contactology can correct complex situations (keratoconus, high astigmatism) and, through orthokeratology, allow you to see without glasses during the day or to slow down myopia in children. Here is the essential.

What is contactology?

Contactology is the branch of ophthalmology devoted to fitting contact lenses. Since each eye is unique, a precise fitting (measurements, trials, check-ups) ensures comfort and good vision. It is suited both to simple correction and to special cases.

The different types of lenses

  • Soft lenses : for myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia.
  • Rigid lenses : very sharp vision, particularly useful for astigmatism or keratoconus.
  • Hybrid lenses : a rigid center for sharpness, a soft edge for comfort.
  • Scleral lenses : large-diameter, they vault over the cornea — a go-to solution in advanced keratoconus.

Lenses and keratoconus

In keratoconus, custom-fitted lenses are often the best visual answer when glasses are no longer enough. Rigid, hybrid or scleral lenses are chosen according to the stage and tolerance. To learn more about the condition, see our page Keratoconus.

Orthokeratology: seeing without glasses during the day

Orthokeratology (ortho-K) involves wearing special rigid lenses at night : they temporarily reshape the cornea during sleep. On waking, you remove the lenses and see clearly all day without glasses or contact lenses. It is a method that is reversible, without surgery, particularly attractive for myopia.

Ortho-K and slowing myopia in children

In children, myopia often increases year after year. Orthokeratology is one of the recognized solutions to slow the progression of myopia, while avoiding wearing glasses during the day. An assessment can check whether the child is a good candidate.

How does a fitting work?

A fitting includes a complete examination, corneal measurements (topography), the choice and trial of lenses, then learning how to insert, remove and care for them. Regular check-ups ensure comfort, eye health and quality of vision over time.
