Refractive surgery

Myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia: modern solutions to break free from glasses — personalized assessment in Fez, Morocco.

Refractive surgery corrects the visual defect to reduce, or even eliminate, dependence on glasses and contact lenses. Several techniques exist: the right one depends on your eye, chosen after a complete assessment.

What is refractive surgery?

It changes the eye’s focus, most often by reshaping the cornea with a laser, or by placing an implant. The goal: clear vision without correction, safely.

The main techniques

LASIK

Laser, fast recovery

The laser reshapes the cornea under a thin flap. Vision recovered in 24–48 hours. For myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

The most common

PRK (surface)

No cutting

The laser acts on the surface, without a flap: suited to thin or at-risk corneas. Recovery is a little longer.

Thin corneas

ICL implant

High refractive errors

A lens implanted in the eye, without touching the cornea. For high myopia or corneas not eligible for laser.

Reversible

There is no single “best” technique: the preoperative assessment (including corneal topography) determines the safest and most suitable solution for your eyes.

Am I a good candidate?

  • Stable vision for 1 to 2 years
  • Cornea of suitable thickness and shape
  • No corneal disease (e.g. keratoconus)
  • Being an adult with healthy eyes

Frequently asked questions

Is the operation painful?

No. It is done under anesthetic drops and lasts a few minutes. Mild discomfort is possible for a few hours afterwards, especially with PRK.

Is the result permanent?

Laser correction is permanent. Presbyopia, however, may appear later with age: it has its own solutions.

Can everyone have surgery?

No. An assessment checks eligibility: thickness and regularity of the cornea, stability of vision, absence of disease. In the case of keratoconus, the laser is contraindicated.
